Spectrum

DTG Members are working to ensure maximum benefit is realised for the UK from spectrum use while ensuring minimum disruption, specifically with regard to accessing TV white space spectrum (TVWS). White spaces are the name given to parts of spectrum that are unused in a particular location and time.

With this in mind, our members are working to better understand the techniques enabling technologies to co-exist in the UHF spectrum, leading to the development of future improvements.

Current workstreams

  • DTG Dynamic Spectrum Access Forum (DSA) brings together all constituencies interested in TV White Space activity to discuss the implementation and impact of TVWS devices. The Forum is open to DTG members, contact reception@dtg.org.uk for details.
  • DTG RF Group discuss the co-existence of new spectrum usage with TV receivers, and propose any specification changes or best practise guidlelines. The Group is open to DTG members, contact reception@dtg.org.uk for details.
  • The Wireless Test & Innovation Centre which, with the support of government, industry and academic institutions, is being used to investigate co-existence issues for all services operating below 1GHz. The state of the art facility has the capability for testing a range of internationally used radio based services such
as 4G LTE, DTV and DAB and has the UK's largest Gigahertz Transverse Electromagnetic (GTEM)
cell, enabling electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) radiated testing in a controlled environment.
