Half of new Virgin Media broadband customers are subscribing to the 30Mb tier or higher, according to Virgin's financial results for the half year and second quarter of 2011. This compares with 18% of customers a year ago taking 20Mb or above.
Virgin Media's TiVo service laucnhed last year now has 50,000 subscribers. Virgin Media's TV subscriber base has increased to 3.8m, of which 1.7m or 45% are able to experience HD after
having a further 131,000 customers take an HD set-top box in the quarter.
Triple-play and quad-play penetration has increased to 63.8% and 12.6% respectively, according to the results. Virgin Mobile's suscriber base is up 23% to 1.35m.
Neil Berkett, Chief Executive Officer of Virgin Media, said: "There is a growing and increasingly broadbased population of people who are becoming dependent on next generation digital technology and are prepared to pay for quality services. During the first half, we have continued to focus relentlessly on delivering superior services tailored to the needs of these data-hungry households and businesses. The increasing demand is evident in a 25% increase in data consumption among Virgin Media's customers in just six months who have watched and downloaded more content then ever before."
