The Government's announcement of the digital switchover timetable triggered the launch of Digital UK, the industry-funded body responsible for co-ordinating the five-year transition to digital-only television by the end of 2012.
Previously known as SwitchCo, the independent, not-for-profit organisation will work with the Government, Ofcom, consumer groups and industry, and is poised to launch a major national information campaign to raise public awareness of switchover. Every household in each region due to be switched over will be written to twice.
A new web site at DigitalUK.co.uk and information line—0845 6 50 50 50—have also been launched.
Ford Ennals, Digital UK's CEO, said: "The Government's confirmation of the timetable is great news as the public can now look forward to digital television for all. Digital UK is here to help and we'll be working hard over the next seven years to explain what switchover involves and what choices consumers have in order to get these digital services."
