Sky 'to spend up to £1bn on broadband'

That move will bring Sky into direct competition with BT, which in turn is developing a hybrid digital terrestrial and broadband television service for trial early in 2006.

The Guardian speculated that Video Networks' HomeChoice—which offers television, voice calls and broadband internet services—and broadband service providers Easynet and Pipex would be considered as acquisition targets. Sky supplies video-on-demand and broadcast channel services to HomeChoice.

Sky isn't commenting on the story.
