UK web usage overtakes TV viewing—survey

Britons now spend more time surfing the internet than watching television, according to a new survey for search giant Google.

According to the survey, conducted by market research group TNS, average Britons spend 164 minutes online each day compared with 148 minutes watching television.

Web users in London and Scotland were the heaviest, spending more than three hours each day accessing the internet.

Lightest web users were found in the north-west of England, where the average time spent online lasted 142 minutes.

On average men used the internet for 172 minutes per day and women for 156 minutes.
