Walt Disney's international TV distribution arm has reached a carriage deal for the Disney Channel and Playhouse Disney on True Digital Entertainment's internet protocol television (IPTV) IPTV platform in Thailand.

The two channels launch on True IPTV—which offers a la carte subscriptions, with Disney and Playhouse Disney available for $3 each per month—within the next week. It's the second IPTV carriage deal for Disney in Asia, following the rollout of both channels on Hong Kong's NOW Broadband TV service.

Nicky Parkinson, Walt Disney Television International's Asia Pacific chief, said: "It has been Disney's strategic focus to develop compelling content and utilise leading-edge technologies in response to consumer demands of getting quality entertainment experiences in the most relevant way.

"IPTV is anticipated to be a major entertainment platform in Thailand and we are extremely excited to work with True, an innovative industry player providing the first IPTV here, to embrace this fast-growing opportunity and bring our two branded channels to Thai kids and families."

Disney expects IPTV is expected to penetrate 55% of the Thai television market in the long-term.
