"People need to wake up and realise that this is not just a cyclical issue," said Duncan, who has long warned that Channel 4 faces a future funding crisis. "There is deep structural change taking place. If we want to protect the fantastic legacy of UK broadcasting, we need to wake up to this sooner rather than later."
Duncan, regarded as a front-runner in the race to replace ITV CEO Charles Allen until he ruled himself out of the running in August, said broadcasters had to stop being "in denial" about the "fundamental change" to their industry.
