Channel 4 sells Quiz Call arm to iTouch

Channel 4 has sold Ostrich Media, maker of participation TV channel Quiz Call, to premium rate telephony provider iTouch. The sale, for an undisclosed sum, comes as MPs on the House of Commons culture, media and sport committee launch an investigation into TV quiz channels, ahead of expected probes by Ofcom and the Gambling Commission.

The sale of Quiz Call gives Channel 4 the chance to offer a new channel on the Freeview platform. New owner iTouch, which provides voting services for shows such as Big Brother, will continue to operate Quiz Call channels on ntl and Sky.

ITouch CEO Wayne Pitout said: "This acquisition brings together one of the most experienced management teams in transactional television with one of the global leaders in broadcast interaction products. The combination of Ostrich Media and iTouch will enable us to look at both domestic and international opportunities in monetising broadcast content at a whole range of levels."

Frederick Fleck, Ostrich's MD, said: "Quiz TV has huge potential both in terms of further UK and international reach and of new formats. In partnership with iTouch we have a unique combination of production capabilities, CRM know-how and industry relationships. We're going to use these to build a global leader in transaction television content over the coming months and years."
