German technology firm Devolo has demonstrated a home networking system that allows consumers to pipe digital TV around their homes using mains power sockets.
The Devolo adapter is connected to digital set-top boxes, and converts the TV signal into an internet protocol (IP) stream which can be networked within a 200m radius.
Devolo—which demonstrated the system at the CeBIT technology fair in Hanover—said its network-attached tuner provided "a simple means" of distributing a single digital satellite channel, in HD quality, throughout a home using the mains.
A specialist in 'HomePlus' networking solutions, Devolo is also developing similar adapters for digital terrestrial and digital cable.
