Swiss IPTV service Bluewin has awarded Tandberg Television a contract to provide its iPlex head-end system as operator Swisscom looks to upgrade the service. The iPlex system manages both high and standard definition formats, using latest video processing technologies to deliver bandwidth improvements of up to 50%.

"Tandberg Television has been our partner throughout our IPTV journey and we are pleased to continue to work with them as we enter the next stage of our development," said Swisscom's TV chief Felix Graf.

"Tandberg Television has pioneered advanced compression, lowering the bandwidth required for delivering television over DSL and enabling IPTV business models to become a reality. We are deploying Tandberg Television's best-in-class technology to enable the expansion of our IPTV service and continuously improving its quality, while still maintaining flexibility and efficiency."

Bluewin TV offers more than 120 TV channels and 80 radio stations, as well as a selection of over 500 movies on demand and live sports coverage.
