Digital TV goes into taxis

Australia has scored a world first with a scheme to introduce digital TV in cabs that could soon start to catch on in other countries.

Starting this week, around 100 of Brisbane's Yellow Cabs will be offering the service via a screen built into the back of the headrest on the front passenger seat. There will also be a printer and a telephone in the headrest behind the driver.

Known as Interactive Taxi Vision (iTV), the service will carry ads as well as news, weather and sport and is scheduled to be fitted to another 1,000 cabs over the next six months.
