With a productive summer behind it—(two new chapters for D-Book 4 on Remote Control Labelling and on Recommendations for Diagnostic Screens and a survey of remote control labelling showing how the population of Freeview receivers compare to the new recommendations)—there appears to be no let up in the drive to improve the usability of digital receiving products.
This week the group received feedback from research undertaken by Ofcom in partnership with Goldsmiths College, University of London. A draft 'Checklist for set-top box connection and set-up instructions' was presented as a result of the research. The group resolved to review the draft checklist with a view to promoting a final version of this useful guidance to manufacturers if appropriate.
Concerns were expressed at the meeting about the limited guidance available for consumers wishing to convert all sets in the home to digital—domestic networks and other options—the group will return to this issue at its next meeting.
