New community radio licences for Cumbria and Yorkshire

Ofcom has announced the award of community radio licences to Eden FM, for a service in Penrith, Cumbria, and to Dales Radio, for a service in the Yorkshire Dales.

Community radio services are provided on a not-for-profit basis, focusing on the delivery of specific social benefits to a particular geographical community or a community of interest.

The licences are awarded to:

  • Eden FM (Eden FM Radio Limited) which will provide a community radio service catering for the people of Penrith and the immediate surrounding area.
  • Dales Radio (Dales Radio Limited) which will provide a community radio service for the towns and villages in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Community radio licences are awarded for a five-year period.
