BBC Director-General Tony Hall has announced the appointment of Gautam Rangarajan as BBC’s Director of Strategy. Reporting into James Purnell, Director of Strategy and Digital, Rangarajan will be responsible for devising and implementing the BBC's strategy.
Rangarajan was previously Controller, Public Service Strategy, and has been in the BBC’s Strategy team for five years. He led the Director-General’s recent strategy review, as well as other major strategic projects across the BBC. Before this, he was a producer and programme editor, making series for BBC Radio 2, Radio 3 and Radio 4.

With his extensive experience of the BBC and his forensic insight into the broadcasting industry, Gautam was the outstanding candidate. His breadth of knowledge and intellect will provide strong leadership as we prepare for the BBC’s centenary in 2022.”
