The Government has named Dame Patricia Hodgson as the preferred candidate as the next Chairman of Ofcom.
The Culture, Media and Sport Committee will hold a pre-appointment hearing with Dame Patricia on 17 December 2013.
As previously announced, current Ofcom Chairman Colette Bowe will step down at the end of March 2014 when her term ends.
Patricia joined the Ofcom Board in July 2011 and became Deputy Chairman in January 2012. She is also Chair of the School Teachers’ Review Body.
She began her career as a producer and journalist before becoming Secretary of the BBC and Director of Policy and Planning from 1993 to 2000. Patricia then served as Chief Executive of the Independent Television Commission until the end of 2003.
Patricia has also held a number of senior roles in the public and private sectors. These include: Principal of Newnham College, Cambridge; non-executive director of the Competition Commission and Member of the Monopolies and Mergers Commission; Chair of the Higher Education Regulation Review Group and Member of the Higher Education Funding Council for England; Member of the Wellcome Trust; Member of the Committee for Standards in Public Life; non-executive director of GCap plc; and Member of the BBC Trust.
