Amazon unveils Fire TV streaming box

Amazon, the internet shopping behemoth, today released its own television streaming box—Fire TV. The device is said to be 3x more powerful than rival products Apple TV and Google Chromecast, with a quad-core processor and 2GB or RAM.

Fire TV gives access to Amazon's online Amazon Prime Instant streaming service as well as third-party platforms Netflix, YouTube and others.

Fire TV also has a strong gaming focus, with thousands of titles available at launch from the likes of Disney, EA and Sega.

Fire TV is available from today in the USA, priced $99 (£60) with UK availability still to be confirmed.
