Wuaki.tv uses TV App Engine to reach smart TVs

Wuaki.tv have today announced that they are now licencing the TV App Engine from TV App Agency which means they can now deploy their OTT service to all major smart TV platforms.

The film and TV Streaming service owned by Rakuten are now using the TV App Engine, enabling further development of apps for Smart TVs, allowing them to continue expansion in Europe. Wuaki.tv have previously had issues of fragmentation when trying to expand across Smart TVs but use of the TV App Engine now means they can launch an app onto Samsung, LG and Panasonic smart TVs, not to mention Playstation 3 and 4 and Sony Bravia devices.

Co-Founders Bruno Pereira and Andy Eardley said We are really excited that Wuaki.tv have chosen to use the TV App Engine. [...] To now have Wuaki.tv choosing to use the TV App Engine is a fantastic validation of our technology.”

With this expansion, does this mean that Wuaki.tv could roll out enough applications to build as big a user base as the likes of Netflix? Send us your thoughts via Twitter @DigitalTVGroup.
