Since 2012, mobile and table video viewership is up 532 percent, according to a new study from video technology company Ooyala.
During quarter one of 2014, more more than a fifth of all online video plays around the world were completed through mobile devices or tablets. This figure was just 3.4% in 2012 and jumped to 9% in 2013 before reaching 21% this year.
Ooyala CEO Jay Fulcher said companies need to think about multiscreen viewing to "build a fundamentally better video business."
As part of this report, Ooyala found that 82% of all content watched online was from an Apple device and 48% of people watching mobile videos watched content for 30 minutes or more, and three quarters for at least 10 minutes.
Fulcher said; "The statistics in our Global Video Index continue to affirm our belief that mobile is in large part the future of video and TV consumption"
