On-demand streaming film and TV library Netflix has launched on YouView for BT TV and retail customers, but TalkTalk users will have to wait until next year to log in.
The deal puts Netflix’s extensive film library and home-grow series Orange is the New Black and House of Cards on YouView screens, along with Breaking Bad, The Originals and Homeland.
BT TV customers who sign up for Netflix with the TV and broadband will be able to pay via their BT bill, which is a world first for Netflix. TalkTalk TV boxes will be updated in early 2015 to provide the new service.
Richard Halton, CEO of YouView said: “Netflix is a brilliant addition to our already impressive line-up of TV programming. We are really excited about Netflix and giving YouView audiences even more choice.”
Existing Netflix customers can sign in on screen with their user name and password, while TalkTalk customers can pre-register at talktalk.co.uk/netflix.
Bill Holmes, head of business development at Netflix said: “We’re very excited to bring the Netflix app to YouView boxes and hope to make it even easier for Netflix members with YouView to watch Netflix on their television sets.”
The Netflix library, which includes films such as The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, Skyfall and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, is also integrated into YouView’s search function, which covers all of its live TV and on-demand providers.
YouView viewers now have on-demand choices from BBC iPlayer, 4OD, ITV Player, Demand 5, Milkshake, UKTV, Quest from Discovery, NOW TV from Sky and Sky Store, with additional services provided by BT and TalkTalk to their subscribers.
