BSkyB has rebranded as Sky plc as it becomes a pan-European entertainment company serving 20 million customers in five nations.
Combining Sky Deutschland and Sky Italia into BSkyB has added 8.6m customers in Germany, Austria and Italy to the 11.6m from the UK and Ireland, while Sky claims that more than 60 million homes across its five markets have yet to take pay-TV services.
BSkyB CEO Jeremy Darroch has been elevated to Group Chief Executive, while Andrea Zappia will continue as CEO in Italy and Brian Sullivan remains Chief Executive of Sky Deutschland.
Darroch said: "Customers will benefit as we launch exciting new services, bring them even more great TV and accelerate innovation across all of the markets in which we operate.
"By joining together, we will share our strengths and expertise while retaining a strong identity in each country where we operate. The opportunity ahead is substantial and we believe the new Sky will be good for customers, content creators and shareholders alike."
The expansion sees BSkyB take 100% control of Sky Italia for £24.5 billion and 89.7% of Sky Deutschland for £4.45bn.
