DTG daily news round-up: Virgin Media extends TiVo deal and TVs get Netflix button

VIRGIN MEDIA STICKS WITH TIVO TO 2018

Virgin Media has extended its PVR and cloud TV services partnership with TiVo until 2018. The three-year extension to the original 2010 agreement commits Virgin to 'the development of next-generation solutions from TiVo'.

TiVo boxes are now installed in more than 2.5 million Virgin Media customer homes—over half its TV customer base and TiVo technology is also behind the Virgin TV Anywhere service launched in 2012.

PANASONIC, SONY AND MORE ADD NETFLIX BUTTON TO TVS

Smart TVs and other networked home entertainment devices from Panasonic, Philips, Sony, Toshiba and Vestel in Europe will now come with a Netflix button on the remote, launching the service without navigating through their smart TV menus.

The remote controls will be included with 2015 as well as some 2014 model year products. Bill Holmes, head of business development for Netflix, said: "The new Netflix button on remotes in Europe makes watching Netflix as easy as changing the channel on traditional TV, allowing viewers to enjoy our great programming much quicker."
