BT Ultra HD promises more than football

BT will show Aviva Premiership Rugby and MotoGP in Ultra HD alongside UEFA Champions League, Barclays Premier League and FA Cup from August.

The broadband-delivered 4k channel will launch on August 2nd with the FA Community Shield match between Chelsea and Arsenal, using a Humax 1TB Ultra HD YouView+ set top box for £15 a month.

NHK pushes 8k trials ahead of Tokyo 2020

Japanese public broadcaster NHK will conduct 8k Ultra HD satellite broadcasting trials from the Rio Olympics and the SuperBowl in 2016 as it prepares for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Market analyst IHS claims that panels at 7680 x 4320 pixels will be shipping at 911,000 units per year by 2019, with 65-inch panels taking almost 80% of the UHD market.

SeaChange appoints new chairman and eliminates CTO role

Multiscreen delivery tech firm SeaChange has appointed Steve Craddock as its new chairman, with Tom Olson stepping down to continue as a board member.

CTO Shiva Patibanda has resigned follwoing the deployment of the Nucleus video gateway software, with the position set to remain vacant as its responsibilities devolve to the rest of the management team.
