Facebook goes 360 with Star Wars, Amazon 4k bonanza and YouView data deluge: DTG daily news, September 24th 2015

Facebook 360 hails VR future

A raft of 360-degree videos unveiled at Facebook's annual Oculus event points to the social network's ambitions for sharing VR content from big brands and users.

Viewers can look around during the clips, which include a Star Wars speeder bike ride, shark diving with Discovery, a VICE report from Afghanistan, a GoPro motocross trip and a leBron James training video.

Amazon unveils six new 4k shows

The latest pilot season from Amazon Prime has six shows—all shot in 4k—featuring talent such as Shane Black, Sacha Baron Cohen, Chris Parnell, Christina Ricci and David Strathairn.

The Ultra HD line-up follows the launch of Amazon's new Fire TV box with 4k support, but will require a broadband connection of 15Mbps or more and a 4k UHD TV with HDCP 2.2 support.

YouView to provide rich user data

YouView partners are set to receive a wealth of data from its set-top boxes about viewing habit, combining on-demand with linear and PVR-viewing from its two million UK homes.

The BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, BT, TalkTalk and Arqiva will all share in the data, which YouView is hoping to integrate with BARB's traditional audience panel data.
