BT Sport tests HDR with Ultra HD

BT has been testing a High Dynamic Range extension to its 4k Ultra HD sport service, although there's no timeline for launching an upgrade.

The current set-up, demonstrated during BT's Innovation 2015 event at AdAstral Park R&D hub, uses the BBC's Hybrid Gamma HDR system which is backwards-compatible with non-HDR displays.

4k cats christen Sony's UHD YouTube channel

Sony has launched a 4k channel on YouTube to showcase both its 4k cameras and give owners of 4k TVs something to show off to their friends.

The new channel includes playlists for the F55 and F65 cameras, a rocket launch, and film clips as well as the obligatory cat video: "What R 4k?".

ITV and Channel 4 welcome 'open' iPlayer

The BBC's proposal to open the iPlayer as a platform for cultural and commercial content from around the UK is being looked at by ITV and Channel 4.

The commercial channels have yet to see firm proposals, but told industry bible Broadcast they would not dismiss access to the BBC's technology and audience.

DCMS to measure BBC's market impact

The Government has commissioned an independent review of the BBC's impact on its commercial competitors as part of its preparation for a White Paper on the future of the corporation.

Consultancy O&O and economic analysts Oxera will soon publish their definitions and scope for the research, which will be completed by the end of January 2016.
