Humax Freeview Play box on sale early

Humax has placed the first Freeview Play set-top box in shops a week earlier than expected, giving catch-up access to BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, All 4 and Demand 5 alongside three Freeview HD tuners.

The FVP-4000T comes with 500GB or 1TB recording capacity, has built-in WiFi and comes in Cappuchino and Mocha designs.

VLV calls for independent TV Licence valuation

The Voice of the Listener and Viewer has called for a statutory body to determine the level of the TV Licence, making transparent decisions free from political interference.

The VLV has sponsored the preparation of a draft Bill to establish the body, which would comprise experts independent of the government, BBC and other media organisations.

Microsoft unveils $3,000 HoloLens demo kit

Developers will be able to start working with the Microsoft HoloLens augmented reality goggles early next year.

The kit was demonstrated with a game where players must shoot robots breaking out of the walls around them, and an interface for the popular virtual construction kit, Minecraft.
