Ultra HD TVs are the must-have home entertainment upgrade for Christmas 2015, and now retailers can be confident their customers are buying TVs that work with the services they use, from BT Sport Ultra HD to Ultra HD on Amazon.
The DTG, the independent UK collaboration centre for innovation in digital media technology, has launched UHDready.co.uk to help the retail trade sell with confidence, supported by manufacturers including LG, Sony, and Philips, with more to come.
Ultra High Definition is the next step in the TV experience, with four times to detail, richer colours and smoother motion, but sales teams and consumers can be confused because the standards are still being defined as the technology develops.
UHDready.co.uk lets retail sales executives quickly look up Ultra HD TVs by manufacturer and see which services they support, or search by service, brand and screen size to see all the suitable products.
Richard Lindsay-Davies, DTG’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “The DTG is proud to support the UK’s consumers and the electronics retail industry as they go shopping for new TVs this Christmas.
“UHDready.co.uk gives retailers the confidence to sell an Ultra HD TV, knowing that the consumer won’t bring it back in a few months because it doesn’t support the services they want to watch.”
Compatibility data for BT Sport Ultra HD, Ultra HD on Netflix and Ultra HD on Amazon can all be found on UHDready.co.uk, which holds details for TVs from LG, Sony, and Philips (TP Vision), with further manufacturers due to add their details over the coming weeks.
The website has been set up at the request of the UK UHD Forum, which was established in 2013 so that retailers, manufacturers, broadcasters and TV platform operators could work together to launch the next generation of TV services.
Manufacturers have provided information on their current Ultra HD TV models and have committed to providing ongoing updates as new models are launched in 2016.
