SMPTE UK wins dedicated Region status

The UK section of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers has been awarded full region status after growing to more than 500 members, and will be headed by Bruce Devlin, chief media scientist at Dalet.

The UK is promoted out of the Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Central, and South America Region, having been re-established in 2012 and chaired by Chris Johns, chief engineer of broadcast strategy at Sky.

Humax lands Netflix on Freesat Freetime

Netflix subscribers can now watch films and TV shows on their big screen using Freesat Freetime receivers from Humax.

The leading SVoD service can be found on the Humax Freesat with Freetime HDR-1000S, HDR-1010S, HB-1000S, and HDR-1100S recorders, alongside Curzon Home Cinema, Hopster, more than 200 subscription free channels and popular on demand players.

ETSI assesses Powerline HDMI for Ultra HD

European standards body ETSI has published a technical report into the benefits of the powerline HDMI technology (PHDMI) for short range delivery of HD and UHD video.

The ETSI TR 103 343 report provides best practise recommendations for using PHDMI in realistic scenarios including home video networks or municipal video surveillance.
