UKTV sees profits soar
UKTV delivered record profits in 2015, hitting £80 million, following a 20% boost in its programming budget.
Upping the 2015 programming budget from £123m in 2014 to £148m saw the broadcaster's revenue increase by 13%. The extra investment meant that original commissions including Storage Hunters UK and Dave Gorman's Modern Life is Goodish are topping the 2015 rating table.
Darren Childs,Chief Executive said that “Double-digit growth is a tough goal. But we’ve achieved that in profit, in revenue and importantly, in investment in our programmes. That’s helping our reputation as a credible and successful investor in creativity go from strength to strength.”
Technicolor & Vubiquity push HDR content
Technology specialist, Technicolor, and service provider Vubiquity are joining forces to help push High Dynamic Range (HDR) content around the world.
Currently HDR content is restricted to a small number of theatrical titles and OTT programmes delivered to HDR Smart TVs, but the new service will allow consumers to view live linear programming and VoD in HDR.
“This announcement contributes to Technicolor’s ongoing mission to bring the best and most immersive cinematic-quality experience to as many people as possible around the world,” said Mark Turner, VP Corporate Partnerships & Alliances at Technicolor. “Vubiquity has a global network with hundreds of content partners and distributors. By embedding Technicolor technology into Vubiquity’s services, visually richer HDR experiences can reach more consumers at a faster pace.”
Bloomberg added to TVPlayer
A partnership between Bloomberg Television and TVPlayer will see the channel launch on its multi-screen service. As one of the UK's most popular consumer streaming platforms, TVPlayer sees over 600,000 unique viewers per week and features 63 free-to-view channels for consumers to view on various devices.
Bloomberg Television will offer TVplayer's viewers up-to-date business and financial news and analysis through it's live and catch-up service across desktop, tablet and Connected TV apps such as Amazon Fire TV and Stick.
