Ofcom appoints new Channel 4 Deputy Chairman

MT Rainey has replaced Mark Price as the deputy chairman of Channel 4 until December 2017. Rainey originally joined the broadcaster's board in January 2012 as a non-executive, and will immediately step into her new role.

“I am delighted that MT Rainey has been appointed our new deputy chair. She brings a wealth of highly relevant experience from her working life and from her many years on our board. I very much look forward to working with her in her new role.” Charles Gurassa, C4 Chairman.

Ultra HD Forum release new guides

The global Ultra HD Forum, which facilitates the ultra-high-definition viewing experience, has released the first phase of industry guidelines at the NAB Show 2016.

The guidelines are focussed on end-to-end workflows for creating and delivering live and pre-recorded UHD content.

“We are proud of this collective work synthesising contributions from content providers, broadcasters, service providers, professional equipment manufacturers, technology solution providers, CDNs, chip-makers and device manufacturers,” declared Thierry Fautier, President of the Ultra HD Forum.

Technicolor on Virtual Experiences

Technicolor's President of Production, Tim Sarnoff believes that artists have the most critical role in getting the full potential out of immersive experiences in the field of entertainment; virtual, augmented and mixed reality.

It's clear from all angles that there is an extreme amount of work to be undertaken in improving the technology, but just as much, if not more, energy needs to be put into creating the content for the new immersive experiences.

“We absolutely need to make advances in tools, compression, resolution and much more. There is an exciting opportunity to harness new technologies to create new ways of accessing immersive experiences. As a creative technology company, we at Technicolor well understand the power of partnership between scientists, engineers and technicians with artists,” he explains.
