Ofcom has today announced that its auction of airwaves for mobile operators will begin on Tuesday 20 March 2018.
Ofcom is auctioning a total of 40 MHz of spectrum in the 2.3 GHz frequency band, which will allow mobile operators to improve their current services. The regulator is also auctioning 150 MHz of spectrum in the 3.4 GHz band to prepare for the roll out of future 5G services.
Six bidders have been approved:
1. Airspan Spectrum Holdings Limited
2. Connexin Limited
3. EE Limited
4. Hutchison 3G UK Limited
5. Telefónica UK Limited
6. Vodafone Limited
Ofcom has said that the spectrum auctions 'could potentially take a number of weeks'.
