US mobile TV service MobiTV has signed up The Weather Channel. MobiTV said the move would enable mobile phone users to view 24-hour weather-related video similar to the programming reaching 88m TV households in the US.
The streamed Weather Channel service 'stitches' weather video clips into a single programming experience. At launch, the service will focus on national weather coverage, but the plan is to extend that over time depending on consumer response.
"The addition of The Weather Channel marks another major stride in our commitment to providing our subscribers with extremely popular and useful programming options on the MobiTV network," said Phillip Alvelda, CEO and chairman of MobiTV.
"From Florida to California, the weather affects each and every MobiTV subscriber everyday, and it's very exciting to offer a channel with such broad reach and appeal as part of our service offering."
MobiTV allows consumers unlimited viewing of more than 20 channels of television programming (news, weather, sports and entertainment) anywhere, anytime—for less than $10 per month.
In addition to The Weather Channel, subscribers can enjoy programming such as FOX Sports, ABC News Live, Discovery Channel, College Sports Television and The Learning Channel.
