The DTG drives key growth initiatives in UK Digital Television
05 September 2016, London -- In support of DTG Member demand and embracing market innovation, the DTG will drive a range of leadership programmes over the next year, to keep the UK at the forefront of advances in digital media. The work will address advances in Broadcast, Hybrid, Advanced AV—UHD, VR & AR, a more radical IP Future, Wireless and Mobile Innovation, Radio microphone spectrum changes (PMSE) and the emerging importance of Data.
Richard Lindsay-Davies, the DTG’s CEO said: “We are restructuring to ensure we sustain the high level of technical integrity and insight for our Members within our existing work whilst embracing key new areas of industry development. Seasoned subject matter experts will work with our established team to help our industry partners co-operate to drive key issues into market opportunities during the months ahead.“
“Focusing on priority areas of interest, Peter Sellar will assume the role of Associate Director Broadcast to focus on our Broadcast and Hybrid activity while David Daniels, formerly of Sky, will be leading on UHD & VR activity. George Robertson, who has been Principal IP Engineer with the DTG since 2008, has assumed the role of Chief Technologist to focus on Wireless and disruptive technologies. Ian Mecklenburgh will be leading our IP activity as Special Advisor and Alex Buchan our longstanding Principal RF Engineer will lead our PMSE initiative. Ian Medland, Head of Technical Development and Ranjeet Kaur, Head of Product Testing will continue to drive excellence within our DTG Testing activity.”
“Our CTO Simon Gauntlett will be leaving at the end of September to take up the position of Director of Imaging Standards and Technology at Dolby*. During his ten years with us Simon has helped drive the development and evolution of services on the cutting edge of TV technologies, including: SD, HD, 3D and mobile through to the emergence of UHD and the great promise of Virtual Reality and 360 video. Everyone at the DTG thanks Simon for his valuable contribution to the Group over the last decade and we wish him the very best and look forward to working with him in his new role at Dolby.“

The DTG is the non-profit UK collaboration centre for innovation in digital media technology, reaching industry, government, academia and international partners, set up with the purpose of looking after the digital TV marketplace. It underpins the free-to-air platforms Freeview, Freesat and YouView, and supporting the development of Sky, Virgin Media, BT and TalkTalk.
It has been central to the distribution of TV in the UK for nearly two decades through the collaborative development of industry standards and best practice, and is currently embracing the convergence of content and networks across industries to focus on the efficient delivery of video to all screens - mobile, tablet and TV - in all formats: standard, high and ultra high definitions.
