What’s the most exciting project coming up for Limelight?
In the area of low latency streaming, there are several new technologies coming to the forefront this year that we are involved with. CMAF Low Latency delivering LL-HLS and LL-DASH is gaining traction rapidly. This enables streaming that matches typical broadcast latency of around 5 seconds, and at global scale. Others include multi-camera views for live sports streaming that are in sync using SYE technology, and High Efficiency Streaming Protocol (HESP), which promises the ability to converge IPTV and OTT workflows.
What are you most excited for at the DTG Summit 2022?
The Designing for the Future session, specifically large-scale IP delivery, which has been accelerated by the pandemic to deploy cloud-based IP production and delivery tools. There will be changes in the way TV is delivered.
What does Television Beyond Imagination look like for Limelight?
The convergence of IPTV and OTT workflows. Efforts like the HESP Alliance to develop technology that brings the best capabilities of various steaming technologies together. The promise of realtime latency for interactive user experiences, enhanced viewer experiences with high quality video over most network conditions, and that scales over existing infrastructure.
What is the biggest issue you think we can address together through cross-industry collaboration?
Consumer frustration with content search. With so many choices of OTT and Linear channels, it is difficult to find content they want to watch. Search involves peering into many “walled gardens” to find content, each with their own UI to navigate. What is needed are search apps that can display content across the many channels.
