What is the most important thing you’ve learnt in your career?
Relationships are key to building a successful brand and business, and most importantly trust with those customers and supporters. I have been exceptionally fortunate to build an ‘extended family’ of friends and customers who I value working with on a day-to-day basis and have supported me over the last 18 years.

What is the one change you think is critical for the industry?
I am fortunate to speak with a lot of people, and the one topic that is always discussed is around mental health and wellbeing. The focus needs to be on the working practices of companies, hours and expectations on individuals, stress and how we treat and speak to one another. Fundamental changes have to be made from the top to ensure that changes are made to assist employees and retain talent in this sector. This sector needs to be accessible to all to have careers in.

What makes this industry special?
The people and the constant innovation. There are some incredibly talented, creative and intelligent people in this industry whose innovations through craft and technology have made this one of the most fast-paced industries in the world. It is exciting to see how big the HETV industry has grown in the UK and what the future holds.

What key skills do you think are needed for your role?
Definitely being a strong communicator, managing stress (especially in the last few weeks to the show!), being innovative and making the show is following the trends and topics that are important to the industry. And also, critically, time management!

What is your desert island luxury item?
Lip balm. Might be superficial but with the burning sun and dry heat I think it would be very practical!

What is your proudest achievement outside of work?
Definitely my children. I am so proud of all they have achieved so far in their lives and the special humans that they are!

What do you do to unwind?
I don’t really have a lot of time for unwinding but if and when I do, I try and get us away to the coast and enjoy sea air and views, and maybe an ice cream!

If you could have dinner with three people, dead or alive, who would they be and why?
Love this question! Sir David Attenborough, George Michael and Dame Helen Mirren

What is your all-time favourite film or tv show?
It has to be Top Gun and I am very excited about the new Maverick release. Anything with Tom Cruise in basically!

What fact or stat do you quote most often?
Content is King! In my world and how MPTS has grown to be a successful event has always been about quality content, inspiring speakers and offering it all for FREE! It is the largest event programme for our industry in the UK and is open to everyone to attend to learn and engage with.
