Tell us a little bit about Simplestream.
Simplestream is a leading UK-based provider of online video services, including streaming workflows and applications. We enable broadcasters, platform operators, content owners, and distributors to quickly launch next-generation TV services, increasing their reach and revenues.
With over a decade of presence in a challenging market sector, and a strong suite of products and solutions, Simplestream provides simplified, cloud-based architectures to a variety of international clients, including AMC Network International, News UK, GB News, UKTV, A+E Networks, TVSN, TELUS, and GAAGO.
What’s the most exciting project coming up for Simplestream?
We continue to develop our Media Manager product to assist free to air channels in the Live and Live2VOD space as they look at complimentary platforms beyond DTT/DTH delivery. Our video platform has now been widely adopted within the sports sector, so we are pleased to be working alongside several rights holders and federations in the coming months which is very exciting.
What are you most excited for at the DTG Summit 2023?
We look forward to meeting up with industry peers and discussing the status of our industry. The Summit will be a great opportunity to ignite conversation around the challenges and the opportunities we’re facing as tech operators, and for a deeper understanding of the pain points broadcasters and content owners are facing today.
What does The Bigger Picture look like for Simplestream?
International growth is an important part of our strategy now we are well established in the UK. We have grown organically to date and now through our Partnership Network we are very excited to have launched our Media Manager and App Platform in the US, Australia and Africa. 2023 – and beyond that, 2024 – is looking very exciting for Simplestream.
What is the biggest issue you think we can address together through cross-industry collaboration?
Broadcasters and platforms need to unite to survive in the long run, so that they don’t lose out to the ‘streamers’. Everyone is competing for both time and the big screen in the living room. It’s paramount that channels, and their content, remain ubiquitous and easy to discover via common standards.
Tell us something people might not know about Simplestream.
Our solutions powered nearly 21 million hours of playtime across the entire portfolio of projects in 2022 only. This means that Simplestream supported streaming services for something like 2,283… years of continuous watching! Beside the stats, we are a really friendly bunch, we have free lunches in the office every week, and hold regular away days to encourage team collaboration and friendly competitiveness.
