Tell us about HDMI Licensing Administrator, Inc. (HDMI LA)

We continue to focus on our licensing, compliance and marketing efforts to support our role as official agent for the HDMI Forum and the HDMI Founders. With almost a billion HDMI-enabled devices shipping every year it is our mission to make sure the HDMI Ecosystem is supported with compliant and licensed products that provide a seamless and interoperable experience.

What’s new for the organisation and what will 2025 bring?

The most exciting thing for us was our recent announcement at CES 2025 that the HDMI Forum is soon releasing the next advancement in the specification – HDMI 2.2 Specification. This will feature a higher bandwidth of 96Gbps and a new Ultra96 HDMI® Cable enabling a vast range of higher quality resolutions, refresh rates and enabling more options for uncompressed and compressed delivery, chroma and colour bit rates. A recent press release and press conference presentation are available here.

What are you most excited for at this year’s International Plugfest?

The continuing support of all the companies that are involved in advancing the seamless experience for end-users and consumers and the introduction of new products and solutions that foretell the future delivery and consumption of digital entertainment.

Why is a view of the Bigger Picture important for the sector?

We cannot operate successfully by isolating ourselves in a bubble. All of our endeavours are interconnected, and it is up to us to drive a seamless and trouble-free ecosystem in order to be successful.

What is the biggest issue you think we can address together through cross-industry collaboration?

Making sure non-compliant and unlicensed products are kept out of the marketplace as they usually present issues around interoperability, toxic materials, service interruptions and consumer cancellations, product returns and many other costly problems.

What are your three TV predictions for the coming 12 months?

It’s difficult to predict the impact of tariffs or other market uncertainties, but the display industry is moving ahead rapidly with integrating AI into solutions we never even thought about a few years ago. New screen technologies are bringing better pictures at more affordable prices, and super-large screen sizes are increasing in penetration rate.
