What do you think is the current biggest challenge that the television industry needs to address?
The transformation of our people and our production platforms to all IP and Cloud. The evolution of technology and the capabilities of the cloud are moving faster than we, as an industry, are ready to leverage.  This transformation is much more profound than previous technology or production changes because it is not about formats, files, or resolution. The move to all IP and Cloud fundamentally changes how we design systems and workflows – opening new opportunities for how we produce and distribute content.  To take advantage we need to think differently, integrate IT/IP and media production, and fully embrace the Cloud.  The scale, efficiency, and flexibility – with the ability to support high end and live production – is available.  Our key challenge is to learn and embrace the opportunity.

Which area of innovation excites you most and why?
I am currently very interested in the evolution of high-end, live production to the cloud.  Simple live production and 1000’s of non-live channels run in the Cloud today.  Venue contribution and high-end production are exciting challenges.

Is IP delivery the future of TV delivery?
Simply yes.  IP delivery provides the interactivity, targeting and user experience that audiences clearly want and provides media companies with the best support for advertising and subscription monetization.

What might “watching TV” look like in 2030?
I am actually not sure the “TV” experience has changed much over the years.  The ability to find and watch great content on an electronic display is consistent.  And we continue to pay for this experience with our time (advertising, FTA) and subscription (cable, satellite, OTT).  While the Metaverse could open up new ways of engagement or storytelling – I honestly think “TV” in 2030 will be very similar today with some consolidation that will simplify access to content.

What is your current favourite TV Show?
We have been enjoying Killing Eve, Ozark, Inventing Anna, and The Queen’s Gambit.

What is your desert island luxury item?
An Ice Maker!

What would people be surprised to learn about you?
I was born in the middle of the US – Kansas – and have wanted to be in media production since middle school.  I have also raced cars at the amateur/club level for several years.

If you weren’t working in this sector, where would you be working?
I’d probably be working as a nature/travel photographer.
