We held a workshop today to discuss possible 5G trials and testbeds for the creative industries. It was held in partnership with Digital Catapult. The aim of the workshop was to draw together input from DTG members in the creative industries and Digital Catapult’s links to the government and academia.
A diverse range of industry professionals were in attendance including representatives from mobile network operators, content providers, broadcast network operators, production companies, test equipment manufacturers, device manufacturers and DCMS.
Amongst the ideas discussed were the use of 5G mobile edge computing for distribution of live content and also the use of 5G for remote links to production facilities. Many other ideas involving the automotive and education sectors were discussed too.
Alongside Digital Catapult, we will be taking on a central role in further developing the ideas presented. We will evaluate all the ideas presented and collaborate with the relevant companies to better establish some of the proposals.
For more information about the workshop, please contact our Head of Wireless Technologies, Alex Buchan.
