DTG attends EBU’s 5G-MAG

The DTG took part in a 5G Media Access Group (5G-MAG) meeting this week, the second one since its launch in October 2019. The group is looking to support the implementation of 5G media standards into chipsets and devices. The group also aims to identify use cases for the creative industries, federate trials and work with policymakers to ensure regulatory frameworks are in place to support the standards.

The first task for the group is promotion at Mobile World Congress at the end of February. The 5G-MAG will be producing a short paper outlining its vision and work process in the next 2 weeks.

5G-MAG is a membership organisation of which DTG are a founding member. It aims to bring together representatives of not only the broadcast industry but also automotive and mobile industries for which features like 5G broadcast could provide many opportunities.

5G for media will be discussed at the our Spectrum Access Forum on Tuesday 3rd March 2020. IRT’s Research Engineer (Future Networks Division), 5G, Jordi Giménez will be leading a presentation on the day. IRT are leading a programme of 5G trials and projects around Europe.
