DTG has appointed Yvonne Thomas as its Strategic Technologist. A new role for the DTG, Yvonne will be using her expertise to help shape the future of digital TV.
DTG CEO, Richard Lindsay-Davies commented on the appointment and said: “We are delighted to have Yvonne on board. As one of her first acts as DTG’s Strategic Technologist, Yvonne will be speaking on a panel at this year’s IBC (International Broadcasting Convention) in Amsterdam. At 14:15 CET on Friday 13th September 2019 in the Future Zone. Yvonne will be discussing the DTG’s position on delivering TV over IP (Internet Protocol) and the challenges that come with it.
Most recently a Product Manager and Product Owner at global services company Arvato Systems, Yvonne is well known in the broadcast media industry, often invited to speak about emerging technology trends at international events. Yvonne also serves as the Education Director for the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE), a role she assumed at the beginning of last year.
Before joining Arvato Systems, Ms Thomas previously worked as a Project Manager at the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) where she primarily focused on 3D and future television technologies.
The industry has recognised Yvonne’s work throughout her career. While at the EBU, Yvonne won the first prize in the 2011 Women and Media Technology awards (sponsored by German broadcasters ARD and ZDF) for her diploma thesis that explored the relationship between display sizes and stereoscopic perception. In 2017, Yvonne was honoured at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) 2017 with a Technology Women to Watch award from TVNews Check.
Commenting on her new role, Yvonne said: “I’m super excited to join the DTG as their new Strategic Technologist. I’m looking forward to working with members and taking a deep dive into the latest technologies – IP delivery and UHD TV particularly.
“In previous roles at the EBU and Arvato, I have already worked with several DTG members and other industry partners too and I hope to further build upon this network within the UK.
“I look forward to supporting the UK’s media community in delivering the best content across all aspects and achieving the best user experience possible.“
