Meet the Member…ATVI

Tell us briefly, what does ATVI do?

ATVI is a small entity ( less than 2 FTEs…) dedicated to certifying TV sets against the HbbTV-TA specification, which enables frame accurate ad substitution in linear broadcast TV. To do this, ATVI has developed a number of specific validation tools and other technical assets which are made available to partner manufacturers, broadcasters, and ad-tech solution providers to help them implement and use HbbTV-TA in a harmonized and reliable manner.

What is your mission as a company?

ATVI’s mission is to create a large and reliable technical reach for HbbTV-TA in Europe and beyond.

What sets you apart from the competition?

We do something that nobody else does, and many established companies would find what we do to be a too small or unattractive business; but we are convinced that we have a very important technical mission to fulfil to the benefit of the ecosystem.

What is the most exciting thing coming up for ATVI?

A lot of exciting things are in front of us:

• Having more TV manufacturers as partners (in addition to the 4 now onboarded; LGE, Vestel, Sharp and TP Vision)
• Getting more TV Models certified
• Crossing soon the bar of 10 million certified devices in Europe
• Onboarding the adtech companies who are the link to Broadcasters
• Making more Broadcasters realize the value for them of addressable in linear and HbbTV-TA as THE technology to grab the opportunity

What is the biggest issue you think we can address together through cross-industry collaboration?

Avoiding technology fragmentation in classical broadcast but also in future IP distribution scenarios ; we need to achieve in IP the alignment which has already been achieved through HbbTV-TA by ATVI in Broadcast.

What might people not know about your company?

The certification of TV devices by ATVI is free of charge for TV manufactures, and our core technical assets are licensed at a very reasonable price to qualified technology implementers.
