Meet the Member… Whale TV
From powering more than 46 million Smart TVs worldwide to championing an open and independent TV operating system ecosystem, Whale TV is helping shape the future of television. Here, we learn more about their mission and what sets them apart. Meet the DTG’s newest member, Whale TV.
Tell us briefly, what does Whale TV do?
We believe that Smart TVs should provide every viewer with a smarter, more personalised and intuitive viewing experience. That’s why our simple TV operating system makes finding, discovering and enjoying TV infinitely better.
We have been on this incredible journey since 2011 and partnered with 400+ TV brands to date, making TV better for everyone. Over 46.5M+ households around the world actively use Whale TV for their daily entertainment needs.
We are headquartered in Singapore and have teams virtually working across the globe.
What is your mission as a company?
TV’s next chapter is being written at the TV OS layer. As streaming displaces broadcast, the TV OS has become what iOS and Android are to the smartphone: the platform that connects consumers, content owners, and advertisers. At scale.
Whale TV’s mission is to create and power the open TV eco-system, where every party thrives, and no single platform controls the future of television.
What sets you apart from the competition?
Unlike big tech TV OS players, we don’t compete with the TV brands we serve. We have no interest in capturing value at their expense. Our model is simple: when our partners thrive, we grow with them.
What is the most exciting thing coming up for Whale TV?
To continue the rapid growth path we are on and drive awareness and recognition for the Whale TV brand. Unlike other TV OS options we are not owned by a major tech, media or ecommerce company and are truly independent and neutral.
What might people not know about your company?
Our brand is almost two years old, but we have been active in the TV industry for more than a decade. In the past we mainly delivered our OS solutions through white labelling, making us probably the best kept secret in the industry. Our TV OS powers the TVs of more than 46M households!
