Ensuring Access for All: The Future of Sign-In for TV Services

This report from the DTG End User Experience and Accessibility Working Groups provides an analysis of the current sign-in landscape, assessing existing authentication mechanisms and identifying key pain points that need to be addressed to prioritise accessibility and user experience.

As television shifts to an IP-delivered future, seamless sign-in will be essential for all viewers. While commercial platforms optimise authentication for their target audiences, older, digitally limited, or more vulnerable consumers may struggle with these systems. And, as Public Service Broadcasters and other essential TV services move online, signing in will no longer be optional – it will be necessary for everyone. Therefore we must ensure these processes and mechanisms prevent digital exclusion and ensure universal access.

This report examines the evolving sign-in landscape, identifying key challenges and opportunities to create an inclusive, user-friendly authentication experience. By addressing these issues now, the industry can safeguard universal access to essential television services.
