Rovi’s Connected Platform to enable CE Devices to play content from Windows 7


Rovi Corporation has announced that consumers using devices built with the latest edition of Rovi’s Connected Platform media networking software will be able to access and share media content stored on Windows 7 PCs.

Rovi’s Connected Platform enables consumer electronics manufacturers to quickly embed networking capabilities in various devices to play entertainment content from Windows Media Center which is provided with Windows 7, as well as other DLNA- and UPnP-compliant devices.

In addition, Onkyo Corporation, in joint development with Rovi, eSOL and Texas Instruments, has announced that Connected Platform-enabled audio/video receivers (AVR), TX-NA1007 and TXNA5007, which are also Windows 7 Play To-certified are now available in retail outlets.

“Our TX series is designed for the wide spectrum of consumers who are looking for a high-quality product to use in their home theatres,” said Mr. Nobuaki Okuda, executive officer of Business Development Division, Onkyo. “We are continuing to innovate to remain on top of the digital home revolution and we’re excited for our product ship with Windows 7 compatibility and Rovi’s Connected Platform together.”

Rovi’s Connected Platform SDK with Windows 7 compatibility is available now to CE and consumer premise equipment manufacturers. Windows Media Center is due to launch on 22nd October.
