Virgin Media is to reduce the price it charges its customers for Sky premium channels from this summer.
From the 1st July, new and existing Virgin Media customers taking the M+, L or XL TV packages will be able to purchase a single Sky Sports (Sky Sports 1 or 2) or Sky Movies (Sky Movies 1 or 2) package for £13.50 a month.
Virgin Media will also offer the entire Sky Sports channel collection (Sky Sports 1, 2, 3 and 4) for £20.50 per month, a saving of up to £42 per year.
Virgin Media customers subscribing to Sky Movies channels can save £84 per year as the Sky Movies channel collection (Sky Movies 1 and 2, Sky Movies Premiere, Sky Movies Premiere +1, Sky Movies Showcase and Disney Cinemagic) is now £19.50 per month.
Virgin Media customers can pay £27.50 per month for both Sky Sports and Movies Collections.
In March, Ofcom’s investigation into the UK pay TV market ruled that Sky must offer to supply Sky Sports 1 and 2 to other platforms at a wholesale price set by the regulator.
Earlier this month Virgin Media confirmed the sale of its TV channels to Sky which resulted in both companies entering new carriage agreements to secure wholesale distribution of Sky’s basic channel line-up, and the newly acquired Virgin Media TV (VMtv) channels including Living, Challenge and Bravo, on Virgin’s TV service.
